Cordless phone batteries give us great freedom from corded attachments to a phone. They are really convenient until they stop working, and then they cause great aggravation. Searching for and finding cordless telephone batteries to purchase may seem like a simple task.
However, the pursuit for business owners involves considering the specific properties of your cordless phone system. There are certain steps you can take to make sure you buy the right telephone batteries.
Most older-model phones have a NiCad (or nickel cadmium) type battery. Because they can develop a memory, the charge life for this type of battery may be much less than when it was new.
The newer batteries are NiMH type. They tend to be more reliable and are also better for the environment. Some useful information to consider when replacing the battery of a cordless phone:
Older model cordless phones usually contain a type of battery called NiCad (or nickel cadmium). The newer cordless phone batteries are NiMH type and are considered more reliable than NiCad and better for the environment. Always dispose of phone batteries properly.

Make sure to check the phone manufacturer's website for a replacement phone battery. In many cases you can purchase a battery directly from them. There are also many online battery vendors with some offering free shipping.
It is a good idea to read return policy, customer testimonials, and other information about the vendor to guide your selection. Radio Shack sells batteries both online and in their storefronts. Most consumer electronics stores carry a large selection of batteries.
Some final tips: Off-brand cordless phone batteries should work just as well as brand name batteries. To extend the life of new phone batteries, allow them to discharge completely before you return the handset to the charger. If you currently own a single handset cordless phone, you may consider purchasing a second handset if it is available for your model.
Having two handsets lowers the chance of missing important calls due to a dead battery in one or the other handsets. As a backup in case the battery dies or you experience a power outage, buy an inexpensive Corded Phone or use mobile phones. Attach the corded phone to a jack splitter or unused jack that shares the telephone line with your cordless telephone.

Cordless Phones: the New Revolution Among Phones
A cordless telephone or portable telephone is a telephone with a wireless set that communicates through a base station that is connected to a fixed telephone line that can be operated near its base station. A cordless telephone requires electricity to power the main base station. A cordless handset can be powered with a battery that is recharged by the base station.
It generally takes a period of twelve to twenty-four hours to get the phone charged. Modern cordless telephone standards, like PHS and DECT have blended the once clear-cut line between cordless and mobile telephones by supporting cell handover with various advanced features like data-transfer and even, on a limited scale, international roaming. In these models, base stations are maintained by a commercial mobile network operator and users subscribe to the service.
George Sweigert, an amateur radio operator and inventor from Ohio is considered as the father of the cordless phone. Sweigert, a radio operator in World War II stationed at the South Pacific Islands developed the full duplex-concept for untrained personnel, to improve battlefield communications for senior commanders, which was the beginning of a revolution in the field of telecommunication.
Cordless phones became an ingredient part of communication in the beginning of the 1980's with a large number of manufacturers entering into the market.
It ended the monopoly of Bell System around 1984 that led to the commercial feasibility of cordless phones. After the breakup, users bought their own phones, usually cheaper ones. In the 1980’s, new companies entered the cordless-phone market namely V-Tech, Uniden, Philips and Panasonic.
Most cordless-phone makers do not specify the chemical nature of the batteries, but V-Tech has admitted using NiMH batteries in handsets and has offered replacement batteries.
