Nortel Phone
Nortel Phone System & Regular Home Phone ?
If I were to buy a Nortel Phone System for my new home office, will I be able to use my regular home phones, or will I to buy cordless phones that hook into the Nortel Phone System?
Thanks in advance for any answers.
Kyle
no!
nortel phones are digital, they only work with the nortel switch.
if you were to plug a standard phone into the port, it may blow the port. This is an expensive fix!
if you need cordless, buy one of the nortel cordless stations (also extemely over priced).
ask your vendor if they can provide a "POTS compatable port". You can use a standard phone, but will lose most of the features of the switch.

Businesses Seeking Reduced Costs And Improved Service Should Invest In Nortel Phones
Business telecommunications are evolving at an incredible rate. Sometimes it's hard to keep pace with the technological progress and all too often, businesses are reluctant to invest in the latest and greatest technology for fear that their investment will be outdated and ready for replacement before they've even paid for it.
One of the more recent advances is well worth considering, though, even for the most technophobic of companies. Session Initiation Protocol (better known as SIP) is a defined standard for enabling multimedia connectivity between two or more parties via the Internet; it's the leading protocol for Voice Over Internet Protocol (or VoIP) communications. So what exactly does this mean? In plain English, that is.
What it boils down to is that people can talk to each other over the Internet using a sip phone. Because the Internet is being used to enable the call, the signal is digital and high quality no matter how far apart the people talking happen to be. Better yet, because the call is routed over the Internet instead of traditional phone lines, there are no long distance charges involved. A company in Cleveland can call customers in Australia, Great Britain, India or New York via SIP and they pay no long distance charges if their customer is also equipped with a SIP-enabled phone. Even when calling someone who has only a regular landline style telephone, long distance charges are often less expensive. The technology is mature, with a well established and growing user base. Major communications companies like Nortel, Cisco Systems and Avaya are offering a wide range of sip solutions for all sorts of business applications.
Ultimately, an investment in a SIP communication system will save most businesses substantially over the life of the system through reduced long distance charges, while offering higher quality calls and access to a wider range of additional features than a traditional telephone installation.
